KOTA BHARU
Kota Bharu is home to many mosques, various museums, the unique architecture of the old royal palaces (still occupied by the sultan and sultanah and off-limits to visitors but viewable from outside) and former royal buildings (which can be visited) in the center of town. K.B. is the best place where to stop if you ending to Perhentian Islands. There is not much to see, but you can find nice food in the market and there are a lot of restaurants. My favorite is "Muhibah vegetarian restaurant and bakery"
http://www.lonelyplanet.com/malaysia/peninsular-malaysia-east-coast/kota-bharu/restaurants/malaysian/muhibah-aneka-cake
From the local bus station you can take the bus n. 43 to go to the beach. It will take around 1 hour. The bus is doing a really nice route through local villages. Here the population is mainly Muslim, so I suggest you to don't wear bikinis.
Where to sleep:
- Timur guesthouse

Best place where to sleep in Kota Bharu.
It is cheap, clean and cozy. If have felt like home.
Matt the owner is a really amazing host and I am sure you will be friends!!!Book it in advance because there are only few bed.
You can buy here, cheap boat tickets to Perhentian Islands 55 RM return.
PERHENTIAN ISLANDS
The two main islands are Perhentian Besar ("Big Perhentian") and Perhentian Kecil ("Small Perhentian"). The name "Perhentian" means "stopping point" in Malay, referring to the islands' traditional role as a waypoint for traders between Bangkok and Malaysia. The islands were sparsely inhabited by fishermen for centuries, although tourism now accounts for most economic activity. The small island, is the best where to go if you are a backpacker and you like to dive. There are not ATM in the island. The island is more expensive then the mainland.
I suggest you to buy some snacks, mosquito repellent and sunscreen cream before to go, because there are really few shops in the island and they are overpriced. Perhentian is one of the best and cheap place for diving."Angel divers" is my suggestion.
How to get there:
From Kota Bharu, take the bus n.639 to Kuala Besut (6RM), or share a taxi for 50 RM.
The boat is leaving at 8am, 12 noon and 4pm.
From Kuala Besut is only 30 mins away.
Where to sleep:
Coral Bay is the cheapest and more relaxing side of the island.
The cheapest dorm (30 RM) is in Shari la resort.
At Fatima you can have a bungalow for 50 RM.
You can party at Long beach walking 20 mins in a path through the jungle.
Where to eat:

Ulala (long beach-nice pizza)
KUALA LUMPUR
Kuala Lumpur is the federal capital and most populous city in Malaysia.
K.L. is lovely modern city, where shopping center, markets, parks, museums, arts and food are all living together. The transport in KL is really efficient, there are also two free buses line, GO KL (Green KLCC and Purple) that covered the most important and touristic place of the city.
http://www.spad.gov.my/news-events/announcements/2012/go-kl-free-bus-service-routes
There is a big range of accommodation in KL, depending on your budget. The cheapest you can find will be around 40RM for a double room with a share bathroom. I have stayed at "Le village China Town" 47, Petaling Street. It is ok to stay for a couple of day.
Shopping centers:
LAW YAT PLAZA, is a shopping center specializing in electronics and IT products in Malaysia.
What to see:
- KLCC
- TWIN TOWER

- CHINA TOWN
- LITTLE INDIA
- KL CITY GALLERY

- BATU CAVES,is a limestone hill that has a series of caves and cave temples in the Gombak district, 13 km north of Kuala Lumpur. It takes its name from the Sungai Batu or Batu River, which flows past the hill. Batu Caves is also the name of the nearby village. The cave is one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside India, dedicated to Lord Murugan. It is the focal point of Hindu festival of Thaipusam in Malaysia. Easy to reach from KL, you just need to get the KTM Komuter, red line and in 5 stops and 3 RM you are there.
 JOHOR BAHRU
There is not much to do in Johor Bahru, but is a connecting point to Singapore or Tioman Island.
Accomodation
Jomi Homestay
TIOMAN ISLAND
Tioman is a small island located 32 km off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia in the state of Pahang. It has eight main villages, the largest and most populous being Kampung Tekek in the north.
The densely forested island is sparsely inhabited, and is surrounded by numerous coral reefs, making it a popular scuba diving spot.
There are ATM in the island. Is hard to find internet and really expensive (10 RM per hour). You can find WIFI in restaurants and bars, but the connection is really slow.
LEGEND
According to legend, Tioman Island is the resting place of a beautiful dragon princess. Whilst flying from China to visit her prince in Singapore, this beautiful maiden stopped to seek solace in the crystal-clear waters of the South China Sea. Enraptured by the charms of the place, she decided to discontinue her journey. By taking the form of an island, she pledged to offer shelter and comfort to passing travelers.
How to get there:
The ferry leave from Mersing and is taking around 1/2 hours, depending where you want to stop in the island.
The best company is Blue water (35 RM per way).
Where to sleep:
I have stayed in ABC, is a small local village less touristic of other part of the Island.
The cheapest accomodation is South Pacific Chalet (30 RM for one person for a bungalow, 40 RM for two people).
What to do:
- Juara
You can walk from ABC to Juara in 3 hours, walking through the jungle.
Juara is a long, nice and quite beach with clear water.
In Juara there is a turtle center "Juara Turtle Project"
http://www.juaraturtleproject.com/test/
- Tekek
In Tekek there is a duty free for alcohol, you can go there in 20 mins walking from ABC if you want to drink cheaper.
- Dive and snorkeling all around the island
PENANG
A fascinating fusion of the East and West, Penang embraces modernity while retaining its traditions and old world charm. These are reflected in its harmonious multiracial populace and well-preserved heritage buildings which led to George Town being accorded a listing as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site recently.
Long regarded as the food capital of Malaysia, Penang also entices visitors with its beautiful coasts and scrumptious cuisines.
Where to sleep:
COCOA MEWS, is a really nice hostel in the heart of Little India. It has friendly staff and dorms for 25 RM with air con and WIFI.
LOVE LANE IN, is a HORRIBLE place where to sleep, it is cheap, but I would not recommend it to anyone. The owner is really rude and the place is filthy and there are bedbugs.
What to see:
PENANG STREET ARThttps://travel2penang.wordpress.com/category/street-art-2/penang-street-art-location-map/
PENANG NATIONAL PARK (Free), is one of the few natural forested areas left on the island. It is also currently the world's smallest national park.  It is easy and cheap to get there. Form George Town is 1 hour by the bus N. 101 (4RM per way). The Park is located at the north-western corner of Penang Island, on what resembles the side profile of a face, hence the name Muka Head ("muka" literally means "face")
LITTLE INDIA
ESPLANADE
KEK LOK SI TEMPLE, is the largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia and probably in South East Asia. It sits on a special hill overlooking Georgetown. It is free to enter. You can get there in 30 minutes, from George town catching the bus N. 202/203 (2RM per way). For 30 days following Chinese New Year, Kek Lok Si temple remains open until late at night whilst thousands of lights turn the scenery into a sea of light.http://www.penang-online.com/pages/place-of-interest/penang-national-park.php
Penang to Cameron Highlands by bus (KOMTAR) is 5/6 hours and the cost is 37RM.
CAMERON HIGHLANDS
Cameron Highlands has a collection of peaceful townships perched 1500 meters high on a nest of serene mountains. Cooling resorts, tea plantations and strawberry farms sprawl lazily across lush valleys and meandering hill slopes, the perfect setting for a relaxing time. Avoid tour company offering really expensive tour. Instead you can trek by yourself and hitchhike easily and safely.
