Hello, we are Alex and Akuna around the world. In few days we are finally going to Morocco with our van Zero a Renault Trafic 1990. We are both on our thirty. We are both from Italy so we are getting a tourist visa on arrival for 3 months. We just needed to be sure that our passports are valid for 6 months. Our van insurance from Italy is called Allianz and is already including Morocco, so we don’t have to be worry about that (otherwise once in Morocco you must buy a car insurance for the van). We also know that the owner of the vehicle cannot leave Morocco without it. We have a Worldwide Travel Insurance with Revolut (a digital banking alternative which is absolutely amazing for travelling and manage your money from abroad)for euro 34 per year per person.
We arrived in Tarifa couple of days ago and we totally fall in love with a wild beach called “Playa de los Lanches”. We think this is one of the best beach where to be with a van in Europe and it is where you can see beautiful views of Morocco. At the moment everything is closed up here so be sure to stock up in town before to come. We have decided this would be our base to get ready for our new adventure. At the library in the old part of town you can use for free the WIFI. In Tarifa there is also a free camping car N 36.01807 W 5.61030 (probably during the summer costs euro 8) where you can drop grey water and WC, unfortunately the clean water tap is closed now. But don’t worry on the way to the beach there is a Cepsa petrol station where you can feel not drinkable water for free.
BUY FERRY’S TICKETS FOR MOROCCO
Next to Lidl in town there is a FRS Travel agency. Yesterday we have been over there and a very friendly and helpful man sold us our ferry tickets and he also explain us all the bureaucratic part.
The 17th of November we will go to Africa!
2 persons with a van, OPEN RETURN ticket (valid for one year) going from Algeciras to Tanger Med (new port-1 and ½ hour journey-big ferry. From this port even in case of bad weather condition the ferry will always go because are bigger than the one in Tarifa. ) and going back from Tanger (old port-1 hour journey-small ferry. In case of bad weather condition with the same ticket is possible to drive to Tanger Med and travel the same day from there.) to Tarifa costs euro 215 in total.
The tickets are divided in two parts, the bottom one is the one you will give to a FRS person to get in the ferry.(Don’t give your tickets to anyone else in the while you are waiting to board). The other one is only a proof you have payed (is not a ticket) and you must keep it with you.
Once at Algeciras port (it is good to be there 1 hour before departure. The gate will close 15 mins before the ferry leaves) look for the FRS queue and wait on the line inside your van. At that point a person of the company will ask about your ticket and he will keep the bottom part. Next he will give you 3 boarding pass for the OPEN RETURN (if you travelling in 2 people), one each passenger and one for the van.
So once you want to go back to Europe the only thing you have to do is to check on their website the departure time and going at the port without need to reserve or book you return ticket. Don’t forget it could take long to check your vehicle before leave Morocco (we hope not anyway) so you cannot be sure about the real departing time.
The travel agent help us to fill in all the immigration papers.
Below you can see a white form and a yellow one.
The white form is the one you need to show (together with you passport) inside the ferry to get a stamp on it, on your way to Morocco. The yellow one is for the return and you must show it to the immigration at the port, before to get in the ferry for Spain. The van also must have documents. We have 3 copies of it.
The first time you have to show them is when you arrive in Tanger outside the ferry at the port (you don’t need to feel any green paper for the van if you already have this documents). The officer from the immigration will stamp them and keep one copy. In the while you will be in Morocco you will drive with 2 copies. On your way back you need to show them again and they will keep another copy. Once in Europe you will have only one copy left. This documents are very important, so keep it safe at all the time during your stay.
For the moment it is all.
Wish us luck!!!!
